Sales Wardrobe Essentials - Part Un

So the sales are upon us and I am sure they start earlier each year, in fact Net a Porter started theirs before Christmas for the first time, however I noticed they held the very good stuff back like Isabel Marant until the last day or two. I have made many a mistake in the past at sale time often blinded by the fact the item was reduced by 60% not that it didn't suit me one bit. On the other hand many of my investment designer pieces were purchased at sale time. So it's about being strict and sensible and the best advice I can give is to only buy what you, need, want and love. It's the perfect time to purchase investment pieces that were beyond your budget before and fill the holes in your wardrobe. So with that advice I will pick my favourite sale items that cover the 10 wardrobe essentials we should apparently all own.

1. The Trench Mac

Now I have this one covered in that I have my Burberry purchased for my 40th, present to me, with a 30% discount code I had for My Wardrobe. Now, I know they are expensive touching 4 figures but have a look a the Burberry Brit range, the younger sister with a little edge to it, where a Trench is £450, still expensive I know but a true investment buy.
There are some great Trenches on the high street, not many in the sale as they are mainly a Spring Wardrobe essential, but I have found this fab one from Jigsaw ( be quick only available now in a few sizes )

Jigsaw City Trench Coat £169 to £84

Still at full price but a fabulous quality mac, saw this a couple of months ago in store, a real investment buy.

Hobbs Beige Saskia Trench £189

Other good ones I have seen are at Marks & Spencers and River Island ( both again not in the sale )

2. The Ballet Pump

Now you know I love my ballet pumps and I would love a red pair, Net a Porter haven't put the red Repetto that I have my eye on in the sale.....boooo and favourite alternative French Sole India in red have been reduced to £49.50 but are not available in my size. So having a look around for a great sale buy, I found these Chanel like quilted ones at Hobbs. I have a quilted pair from Russell & Bromley that are wearing out slightly, so these would be a great replacement.

Hobbs Black Brady Ballerina £99 to £69

3. Day to Night Dress

This is a very handy wardrobe piece, I don't go 'out out' a much as I did socially before the children, we do early tea with the children, socialise at friends/brother & Sister In laws for dinner and if I go out with my girlfriends it's a week night so this understated dress that can be dressed up or down is a winner in my eyes. My favourite this season is very cute one from Reiss which I've featured before,

Reiss Houston Dress £159 to £109

As ever Whistles are great in this category and the Luanne dress in red has been reduced, the dotted version ( my favourite is still full price, I will watch this space on that one.)

Whistles Louane Dress £165 to £98

4. The White Shirt

Now this was my uniform many years ago, a white shirt and boot leg 7 for all mankind jeans, remember that look? For comfort these days I don't wear my fitted white shirts, I have some great ones from Hugo Boss and Thomas Pink as well but I much prefer a comfy loose shirt. I got the MIH blue dotted one in the summer sale and would love one in all white.

MIH Swing Shirt £146 to £73

Oh how I would love this but sort of spent up!

5. The Cashmere Jumper

Sale time is the perfect time to purchase the luxury of cashmere and I have done just that, my favourite jumper this season was a cashmere striped jumper from Boden and on Christmas Eve I noticed it had been reduced by 50% happy days.....

Did this sale purchase follow my own advice, well I loved it when I first got the boden catalogue and I wanted it pre sale, did I need it? Well there is always space in my wardrobe for cashmere and stripes and it will do perfectly for our New Year break in the Lakes, so yes I needed it.

Here I am wearing it yesterday for our very enjoyable walk,

Jacket, Barbour / Hat, Urban Outfitters / Jumper, Boden / Jeans, Topshop / Boots, Hunter
Back with part Deux of this sale wardrobe essentials, in the next day or two and with details of my second sale purchase.

Xx

  1. I love your walking outfit, I always manage to look like a vagrant in my knitted hoodie and builders boots! I wish sales shopping was as simple as the old days where you just went into town and bought what was in the shops. I had a sneak peek at the Outnet, and once I had seen the Ocar de la Renta collection, it's perfection has rather spoiled anything else that might be more in my price range.

    1. I know there is too much choice now, I use to enjoy going into Manchester to the sales in between Christmas and New Year to Harvey Nics & Selfridges this year I haven't even been to the sales just via the IPad which is dangerous! I don't believe you could look like a vagrant! Happy New Year xx

  3. Love the jumper honey, I can't tell you how many times this has been in my boden basket and out again, pink top or green top, couldn't decide so did nothing. This must be the most stylish walking outfit ever, do you want to borrow a Pug?

    1. Happy New Year, yes it was in my basket a few times also. I went for the pink because I admired the pink one on Beth from Styleguile. We want to get a dog... I said to the hubby, once we get the dream house he can have a dog!!! Then I will have the perfect walking accessory. xx
