FM40 Style - Khaki and Leopard

Top, Vanessa Bruno (old) / Trousers, Topshop / Shoes, Russell & Bromley

I have got new khaki chino trousers, I ruined my Gap ones from last year with a splash of bleach ..... annoying! Anyway, I was looking for a replacement and toyed with the idea of getting the ripped knee utility trousers from Topshop that Laura from WIT has and the lovely Fran. Fran did kindly give a word of caution that the rips did get very large with wear. Then, perusing Topshop I spotted that they had done them without the knee rips, in the basket and checked out faster than I could blink.

Oh ..... have you noticed something else, the shoes. Yes, I have a major confession to make, I have a weakness for nice shoes and a major weakness for leopard shoes. So, I eBayed the Boden lillie lace up flats (I am not sure if you have, but I found them very comfortable, the holders where the laces went through rubbed my feet) and other bits and bobs I no longer wear, returned the Boden gold polly points (thank goodness for Boden's 3 month return policy) and I then raised the money for these beauties. After seeing them on the beautiful Laura's My Pollyanna Instragram, I knew I had to have them.

After all my lace up shoe failed purchases, the New Look ones, the Boden ones, I think I have finally found my true love. I also cannot recommend the TOPSHOP UTILITY TROUSERS £36 enough, so comfy and on trend with the khaki , especially if like me you don't want to do the full on khaki boiler suit!

Have a fabulous weekend.

  1. Lovely. I think you are the right shoe decision. I ordered and returned the Boden ones, just weren't right on me. I like your trousers, I just found some linen khaki relaxed trousers from a shop called Oysho in Milan last weekend, they have a lot of lovely summer bits and I think they shop to the UK x

    1. PS they look so much better on you than on the Topshop website! Did they come up small/large? x

    2. Hi Natalie, I am a 28 in their jeans, but the size 10 were alittle tight on my bum (I am carring a few extra pounds) so I ordered the 12, a lot more comfortable slightly loose on the waist, but a far more flattering fit on my bum. They are a soft material, really nice and comfy. X ps I hope that helps. Xx

  3. The trousers are perfect, I never have luck in Topshop but will give them a go. Otherwise I did try on some in Mango so I might end up with those. The shoes are beautiful. I have kept the Boden Lilles but I prefer the maroon Boden t bar flats (A/W 14/15) for comfort. My most comfy pointed flats are my Hobbs Celine flats bought after a tip off from Kat (Does My Bum) last year. Back to the chinos - are they mid-rise...and true to size?

    1. Yes, I pefered the t-bar flats and that's why they didn't hit the eBay pile. I need a nice wine coloured jumper to go with them come autumn. The chinos are very comfy, soft material, they are definitely mid rise, upper mid I would say. I have explained the sizing in my reply to Natalie. I hope that helps Carol, have a wonderful weekend. Xx

    1. That was my problem, I couldn't so I opted for the more expensive ones. X

  5. The tale of the lace-up shoes made me laugh - I am so familiar with all the shopping plotting and planning and ebaying and returning and doing sums in head to see how I can afford the current object of lust! Those leopard-print flats are just gorgeous and you will get so much wear from them. I love nice shoes too. To be honest I don't get any genuine pleasure out of cheap shoes. I always feel a bit blah about them. (I have no probs with cheap clothes, sadly – I love them, but thats a whole other story!!) I also like the trousers - am in the money for some new chino type trousers this year so will be interested to hear about how the sizing comes up - are they big, small, long, short or true to size?! Have a lovely bank holiday weekend. Annabelx

    1. Hi Annable, I am glad you found my quest to find a pair of lace up shoes that I liked funny. Yes, high street clothes, fine and dandy, but shoes I do prefer the more expensive variety. Which was the problem with the others I purchased, excactly like you said blah........ the Topshop chinos are nice, I am normally a 28 in their jeans, but the size 10 were alittle tight on my bum (I am carring a few extra pounds) so I ordered the 12, a lot more comfortable slightly loose on the waist, but a far more flattering fit on my bum. They are a soft material, really nice and comfy. X ps I hope that helps. Xx

  9. I have both the trousers and boiler suit in my possession. I ordered them at the beginning of the week and they were with me by the next day - fab service. And I love them both but am struggling to see myself in a full on boiler suit though it's such a good fit. And the trousers - they are fab. But can I justify them as I have the Gap mini skimmers? Hmmm.

  10. Love your outfit. I have been looking at chinos but can't find any I like from the behind! Yours look great as they have pockets. Please could you let me know your ebay username as I would love to check out any items you may be selling? I could drop you an email so you don't have to put it out publicly? X thanks. X
