FM40 TRAVEL | SAINT EMILION

After a very enjoyable two days in Bordeaux, we travelled to the Gite which we had rented for the reminder of our holiday, it was about 10mins from the picturesque village of Saint Emilion. Very pretty, rustic and authentically decorated French. The pool was its crowning glory and we spent many afternoons here on our holiday, sunbathing and having fun with our two.

Saint Emilion, I adored and could wander around its pretty streets all day and evening. This was rather a steep hill and you needed to hold on to the handrails in my type of shoes (and they were just flats ... no heels on this holiday .... unheard of for me).

What I particularly enjoyed about this holiday was the local produce markets that each local village took turns in hosting, fresh bread, pastries, meat, fresh vegetables and of course the cheese. We did BBQ most evenings and this really made it that little bit extra special that we had been for the ingredients that morning fresh from the market.

The outside dining area of our gite ...... where we enjoyed many evenings.

As food lovers we did treat ourselves to a couple of meals out and I have to say they were all sublime.

CHATEAU DE CANDALE

1 Grandes Plantes
33330 Saint-Laurent-des-Combes
France

A gorgeous looking chateau that had wonderful outdoor eating area surrounded by vinyards.  The food was excellent and a fabulous value children's 3 course menu for 12 euros ...... yes 12 euros, what Michelin star restaurant in our country would offer that.
  1. Le Clos du Roy

12 Rue de la Petite Fontaine
    33330 Saint-Émilion
    France

Tucked away in the heart of Saint Emilion village was Le close du Roy, here we enjoyed a truly wonderful experience on a beautiful evening. The waiters pass/table made me smile and that pass got totally full as the evening progressed, again they were excellent with the children.

LE TERTRE

5 Rue du Tertre de la Tente
33330 Saint-Émilion
France

We had the most amazing dining experience here, after the owners initial inner panic that our table for 4 included 2 children we got upgraded to the 'Salon', the best table in the restaurant which is located in the wine cellar, but was tucked out of the way in case our two caused any disruption to the other diner's experience. In fact, at the end of the evening he sent his wife over to compliment us on their behaviour. The tables for two outside are so sweet, they and Le Tertre are located on that famous steep road in Saint Emilion.

France we loved you and I am sure we will return (we are already looking for French holidays for next year ...... the holiday blues, I think).

  3. It looks fabulous. Do you details of the gite as it looks perfect? Or do you know where we could look for something similar with. A pool? Your outfits were gorgeous too! X

    1. Hi their website is http://www.gite-la-mission.fr and it is also available on HomeandAway website. It is only 1 bedroom with a sofa bed in the living room sleeping another 2. Our children are only young (5 and 2) if you have older children I would say its not that suitable and really only for 2 people. x
