FM40 STYLE | DREAMING OF A NEW HANDBAG

Coat, Nicole Farhi (similar here) | Scarf, LV | Jeans, (here) | Boots, (here)

I got my little boy to take this outfit picture and the pictures he took with my handbag included (my Mulberry black hobo) I deleted, it just didn't look right. To be honest, I think I have fallen out of love with it, I find it too big for day to day use now (as I am thankfully required to carry fewer children bits around with me on a daily basis), plus I now prefer bags that I can sling across my body and that give me the option of being hands free. There is one bag I often dream about and that would make a prefect accessory for the above outfit ........

The Louis Vuitton Sofia Coppola bag, but sadly it's way out of my budget. There are cheaper alternatives however,

I have had one alternative in my mind for about 18 months since reading an interview with Little Spree's Sarah Clark here , the Clare Vivier duffle bag (she has one) it is cheaper than the LV and you can also get it monogrammed, I love a little bit of monogramming.

Shock, horror this bag seems to be discontinued and replaced with the Sandrine. Still really nice, but not quite the same, the duffle straps that are so reminiscent of the Louis Vuttion have disappeared, maybe a touch of copyright design issues there?

I have found another black duffle bag, this one on Etsy last night that has a slight Louis Vuitton SC feel about it, for anybody else with a SC bag obsession.

  1. Why don't you sell your old bag on eBay or Vestaire and look out for a second hand LVSC one at the same time? Sometimes only the real thing will do ;-) x

  2. This is such a timely post because I'm dreaming of a new handbag too. I love the SC bag for LV and once spent some time lusting over it in store...the MM model is actually quite big and I felt it looked disproportionately large on me (5ft 2in) but the PM was perfect (and a fraction cheaper but still sadly way too ££££ for my budget!!). The only thing that puts me off is that they are quite heavy and I need a light bag as I seem to carry so much crap around with me and to/from work - shoes/boots, umbrella, paperwork, sometimes my lunch - and I think the SC would weigh a ton with all that stuff in. I saw a gorgeous Jerome Dreyfus duffel-type bag with cross body strap in the post-Christmas Monnier Freres sale - the Raoul duffel – but again I thought it might be a bit big for me. Just had a look now and sadly it's now out of stock but this is what it looks like: http://www.monnierfreres.co.uk/Raoul-brilliant-goat-Bag-DRE004034-uk.html
I second Kate's comment above - have you thought of selling the Mulberry and putting the money towards a new bag? I sold two 10-yr-old mulberry bags on ebay last year and made £250...they seem to keep their value. And it might be working looking on The Real Real for a Clare Vivier bag...it's an American site so her bags might pop up on there relatively regularly? I have also heard that they are much better at authentication than Vestiaire Collective. Annabelxx

  3. P.s. got carried away by bag chat but wanted to say I bought the Etoile IM Sila shirt you included in your Isabel Marant sales round up and I love it. One of those items you take out of the box and put on straight away (doesn't happen often for me, I am both fussy and indecisive!) I have been looking for a denim/chambray shirt for a long time and it's perfect. Thank you! Axxx

    1. Oh great, I love that, when you have instant love from a purchase ........ I am may think I may regret not getting that shirt in the sale. I decided to not to purchased any IM in the sale as I would love most of her new collection. x p.s I am off to double check its (IM silk shirt) is not sold out in my size.

  4. Don't sell your bag! You will regret it later. Mulberry is a classic. Store it away...and look for another bag you'd prefer to use for now. I have a black Sophia Coppola LV lookalike (ish) from Jaeger last year in the sale. Reduced from 399 to 99 I think so I was happy with it. Having said that, I am after a new bag too - my last new bag was a camel bucket bag from Russell and Bromley last summer - but I am fancying a red cross body. Would love the Gucci Disco but at 650 quid it is out of my price range. Am looking around the 250/300 mark - if you see anything on your shopping trips do tell!

    1. It has crossed my mind Carol and then the possible regret has too, like you say. I think I will keep hold of it as there is nothing I really want within my budget. I will keep you in mind when l am researching for a red cross body bag. xx Does the cute LK bennett one come in red? x

    2. No it doesn't! Kat from DMBL40 suggested that too - but when I checked it appears there's no red.

  6. Hi Annemarie, I also love the SC bag but can't justify the price. Just FYI, Madewell made a version of this style bag last year and I purchased and love it. It might be available on eBay.
