W H A T  I S  I N  M Y  M A K E-U P  B A G

For many years I have been a loyal Bobbi Brown girl, now and again I will try out new products, but 9 times out of 10 I normally return to Bobbi Brown.

I have recently made a few colour adjustments after recently going back to my brunette roots, so I thought I would update you with the contents of my make-up bag as a few of you have emailed me asking.

After trying out Chanel Les Beiges, I have gone back to my beloved Chanel Vitalumiere I just prefer the lighter coverage and I can wear this mostly all year around. For my holiday and when I am sporting a tan I do really like Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser . I have tried numerous concealers over the years and I have to say for the last two years I have been using Nars radiant creamy concealer and I absolutely LOVE IT! It gives good coverage and doesn't settle in the fine lines. For my cheeks I do prefer a creamy blush as I like the dewy finish they give, which is more flattering (I think) to the ageing skin, I also like a little pop of colour and  Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge is the perfect choice for me. I am presently using calypso coral, but once that has been used up I am going back to my old favourite colour pale pink, which compliments my new hair colour better. If I need a little pick me up, I will have a light dusting of bronzer and the bronzers or all bronzers in my opinion is again by Bobbi Brown .... no glitter and no orange umper lumper look here.

After curling my eyelashes (which is a beauty must) most of the time I will just give myself a good coat of mascara. I do feel more put together with some eye shadow and I am presently wearing Bobbi Brown in Antique Rose, I was advised this colour my one of their make-up consultants after going darker with my hair colour, it is a really pretty daytime eye shadow. When I like to do a darker eye for the evening I really like the shade heather, anybody who has green eyes like myself then this really complements them. I sorted of cheated on Bobbi Brown eyeliner recently, for years I was a devotee to her long wear gel eye liner, now this is an amazing product I use to wear this when I was an Air Hostess and it didn't move at all on a long twelve hour shift .... fabulous product! However, I have found an equally good product Chanel's style yeux waterproof eyeliner, OK it may not have the saying power of Bobbi Brown's long wear gel eye liner, but I don't have to contend with a dry pot of gel (when I didn't put the top on correctly) and I can use this to carefully fill in my eyebrows in between tints.... so it's a good little multi-tasker to have in my bag.

I feel naked without any lipstick or lip gloss .... If I am going to hot yoga I will always put some balm on at least. I love my glosses and I have recently gone back to an old favourite Bobbi Brown lipgloss in petal. When I went lighter in my hair colour I stopped using it, but it was the first thing I purchased when I went darker. It's such a good all rounder - lovely to wear of a day, complements a smoky eye of an evening or can be teamed up with a lipstick for a more stronger look. When I use to fly, I was asked many questions by passengers (often very strange, but we will leave that for another day), but a popular normal question when I wore Bobbi Brown lipgloss in petal was "what lipgloss are you wearing?". My favourite lipstick is Charlotte Tilbury K I S S I N G in the shade Bitch Perfect ....LOVE LOVE IT! A really perfect nude shade for me, a neutral pink, very pretty that can be made stronger with some lipliner. I get lots of compliments when I wear this lipstick and I think the staying power of Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are excellent.

Oh and I pop all these bits and bobs into my cute Anya Hindmarch Girlie Stuff make up bag that I picked up on the Outnet a few years back.

P.S I will follow this post in the very near future with a skin care post. Also, this post was no way sponsored by Bobbi Brown I just genuinely love their products.

  1. Wow, its almost identical to the contents of my makeup bag! I've always used powder blush though and its definitely not sitting as well now I'm knocking 40. I'll give Bobbi a try...

    1. Ahh great minds as they say. Try a cream blush I find them very flattering to the 40+ skin. xx

  2. I have the same makeup bag as you but in black! I really enjoyed this post and it was very timely as my makeup bag needs a bit of a restock but your words were a good reminder that sometimes it's best to stick to tried and tested products. I also love Bobbi Brown and despite trying umpteen different foundations I always go back to BB Moisture Rich (or, like you, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in Nude when I am wearing fake tan/in the summer). I tried a sample of Chanel Les Beiges recently but it was too matte and a bit ageing. The Nars concealer sounds fab and I'm going to try it. I find lipstick the hardest to get right – my makeup basket always has more than a few bad-buy lipsticks rolling around the bottom. I think my favourite formulation is Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, which I always buy with my Boots points, but you've inspired me to give Charlotte Tilbury a whirl next time I'm in a dept store. My main problem now is that with a makeup obsessed 13-yr-old in the house anything new and exciting seems to grow legs and walk right out of my makeup basket...have a good weekend, Annabelxx

    1. I used to use BB Moisture rich and you are right in saying the Les beiges was ageing and far too matte. The Nars concealer I would totally recommend. Lipsticks are so difficult and can be costly mistakes .... I like Chanel Rouge Coco shine however I picked the wrong colour, too orange ... don't know what I was thinking that day! Lottie is a girlie girl and is all ready showing interest in my make-up bag ....... I will have to lock my make-up bag when she is 13 like your daughter as I think her plastic play set won't cut the mustard then! Have a good week .... Oh did you try the Gant shirt? x
