FM40 STYLE | YOUR AUTUMM/WINTER CAPSULE WARDROBE - PART 2

K N I T W E A R

Living in the UK we all need knitwear for A/W and as I said before in this post, invest in the best you can afford.

The two types of knits I like are cashmere and merino wool. Cashmere doesn't have to cost the earth and the high street offer very good options, if fact my favourite cashmere jumpers are from Uniqlo and Marks & Spencer

For autumn you will need a thinner knit like merino wool, which the iconic J Crew Tippi is made from. The tippi sweater is like a t-shirt version of a jumper and it is brilliant to layer under leather jackets and blazers in the autumn. Of course you don't have to go with the Tippi, Winser London have some lovely merino wool jumpers  with a flattering V-neck for any busty girls like me.

When the colder months arrive cashmere will be your best friend and there is nothing like pulling on a beautifully soft cashmere jumper when the temperatures drop. Cashmere is well worth the investment - jumpers you will love forever. As I mentioned before high street cashmere is excellent these days with Uniqlo being one of the best ...

As you can see I have I have picked jumpers that fit into a neutral colour palette .... creams, camel, navy, black and grey. Grey being my absolute favourite, it's the most versatile, it looks expensive and is flattering to most skin tones.

Once you have the basic of these colours then move onto introducing a pop of colour like red. I really fancy a red cashmere crew neck jumper to layer under that pretty embroidered jacket I was gifted by Jabayard. Uniqlo have gorgeous tomato red V-neck (it is described as dark orange) but the crew neck is only on their US site .... fingers crossed it is released on ours pretty soon. Another, nice colour to add if like me you favour a monochrome wardrobe is pink .... not the sickly variety, but the soft blush pink, something like this

Moving onto the statement jumpers which have become a must have ..... the masters of these are Bella Freud (the pink 1970 jumper is on my wishlist) and Chinti & Parker.

As you can see Hush always do a good affordable slogan jumper that sits well with the expensive ones.

  1. Knits are one of my staples for autumn and winter and I also go for merino or cashmere.
I have a great merino sweater from Uniqlo which was really reasonable in price (about €30, if memory serves), washes well and hasn't pilled yet. Most of my cashmere is from Boden, which is lovely and soft and wears well, and not too expensive for cashmere. I seem to have weakness for navy and cream knits, as I now have four, and have spotted a possible fifth one from the new Arket!
